Neither the brokerage nor checking account has a minimum account balance, so I leave my brokerage account balance at zero because I am only planning on using the checking account for its ATM benefits (Sarah Page: I’ve also done the same in the past, but a reader commented on this post on 6/27 that his account was closed for lack of a balance over a significant period of time, so you may want to maintain a small balance). We generally try to use American Express cards when thinking about insurance, as they are managing the insurance on the cards worldwide, whereas Visa/Mastercard insurance is often handled by the card’s issuing bank, and may not be as straightforward to redeem.
Or you could just open an account with Fidelity and keep a minimum balance of $1000 in one of their debit cards. I don’t believe there’s any reason for a credit check (after all, it’s just a savings acccount). Been using this for years and never a charge either domestic or abroad. Since I’m in Thailand right now, all the banks charge 150 baht, so I save $5 with every transaction.
Their training is done online and is self-paced. You could finish the program in 4 months but 6 months is probably more realistic. They do however give you up to a year to get it all done. Their program is approved by the American Health Information Management Association and the American Academy of Professional Coders. They work with companies such as CIOX Health, Lexicode, OS2-HCS, TrustHCS, Inovalon, Mckesson that hire their grads to work from home right out of the program.

At the very least you will probably be charged the same transaction fee, if any, that your bank charges you when using another bank’s ATM. Virtual assistants, commonly referred to as VAs, come in all shapes and sizes. Many companies will hire VAs if they are looking for help with online administrative tasks (email, calendar management, data entry, etc), but don’t necessarily want to hire a full time employee just yet. They’re the perfect work from home job for busy people that may need to drop their work at a moments notice, or have very sporadic availability.
It takes an inordinately long time to collect enough points to get even a 5$ gift card, let alone 5$ in paypal… there are other sites that pay out way better. You’d honestly be better off collecting cans and recycling them for change rather than using swagbucks. I’ve tried using it for months now and I’ve had nothing but problems— not receiving points after watching tons of really bad videos/clips, not receiving points after completing a survey (or being told i was “screened out” of a survey AFTER i had a message saying it was complete!) Their customer service is terrible. It might work well for people who shop online a lot, but if you already don’t have any money in the first place, it is not very useful (half the things on there just redirect you to places where you have to sign up, give personal information, a lot of them ask for CREDIT CARD NUMBERS…beware!)
Be very careful signing up if you are American but traveling while you register. I only spend about a week a year in the states, they Charles Schwab let me register and add $1000 USD to the account. They sent me a card and everything but when I went to make a withdraw(friend visiting brought the debit card) they wouldn’t allow it, I called the bank and they said the account was locked because I registered from a foreign IP. They would not allow me to send any info to get it unlocked and said I could only do so in a person at a local branch with 2 forms of ID and that they would keep my money until then. There was no way around it and if they were going to lock the account they should of done it before they let me make a deposit. Six months later I was finally able to get the funds back.
