The Charles Schwab Corporation (NYSE: SCHW) has a high-yield investor checking account that tops the list for the best checking accounts with reimbursed ATM fees. Schwab offers unlimited reimbursement for any ATM fees incurred worldwide. Free bill pay, standard checks, a Visa debit card, mobile deposit and 24/7 U.S.-based customer service are all included. As of 2018, individuals with this checking account earned a 0.35% variable interest rate on any balance. There are no monthly minimums or service fees. The account must link to a free Schwab One brokerage account. Schwab operates branch offices in almost every major city throughout the United States.
Neither the brokerage nor checking account has a minimum account balance, so I leave my brokerage account balance at zero because I am only planning on using the checking account for its ATM benefits (Sarah Page: I’ve also done the same in the past, but a reader commented on this post on 6/27 that his account was closed for lack of a balance over a significant period of time, so you may want to maintain a small balance). Here’s a little more info about the two linked accounts:
With so many businesses operating mostly, or even completely, online, it’s no wonder that many hire virtual assistants to help keep them organized and complete administrative tasks. According to the International Virtual Assistants Association, these workers are “independent contractors who (from a remote location, usually their home or office) support multiple clients in a variety of industries by providing administrative, creative, and technical services.”
Gertrud, I’m sorry you haven’t had luck finding work with these companies, but I can assure you they are not scam companies. Many do have people fill out questionnaires, to make sure that candidates match the requirements and needs of the company, basically an on-line interview. Don’t give up, I’m sure you will find the right match with persistence.
Capitalone360.com checking also has 0 international atm fees and no fee for currency conversion. I opened an account and used it in hong kong, macau, and thailand in november and can confirm the no fees and good exchange rate. It also has no minimum. I had a similar problem with high dollar withdrawals in macau even though the amount was below the daily minimum? Perhaps has something to do with the country, or that it was a casino atm?
This is another area where large, often tech-focused, companies are consistently looking to hire remote workers. Like with customer service agents, tech support specialists are focused on answering customer questions and solving their problems. However, tech support is more specialized, so it does require a little knowledge about working with the product.
The fee on the other hand shows up as a separate transaction on my statement. My credit union bank account shows 1% of USD amount and Chase bank account shows 2% of USD amount of transaction. Despite this, if the foreign ATM terminal has a matching interbank network logo to your card (Cirrus, Star, Interlink, etc) then this additional fee transaction does NOT show up. If no matching logo, then Visa/MC network is used and the separate fee transaction shows.
